INTERNSHIPS

Each term, spring, summer, and fall, IBC looks for two to three bright, self-motivated students from around the country for our internship program. The internship is not rigidly structured, so we are looking for students who are able to work in a flexible environment with minimum supervision and have a clear idea of what they expect to accomplish before coming to Washington.

Intern responsibilities vary, but include attending and summarizing congressional hearings and press conferences, providing research for counsellors and clients, composing articles for our trade publication, and monitoring political and trade developments in various regions and issues. Clerical work is minimal, though it may occasionally be required.

IBC internships are unpaid and are open to undergraduate students. We are currently accepting applications for Fall 2012 . If you are interested in working with us, send

HOUSING & TRANSPORTATION IN D.C.

Housing in Washington can be pricy, but interns have quite a few options available to them. Many interns sublet rooms (which can be found on Craigslist, Facebook Marketplace, or through friends), while others rent out dorms in D.C.’s local universities. Several businesses and non-profit groups offer housing for interns, such as the Washington Center for Internships and Academic Seminars or Thompson Markward Hall.

Parking is scarce in Washington and most interns find it is easiest to commute to work using the Metro. IBC pays for interns’ transportation to and from work and events by providing a SmartTrip card, which grants access to Metro trains and buses.
